The Center promotes greater understanding of tribal sovereignty through monthly Sovereignty Speaks© lectures and sovereignty events including Sovereign Stance, Nations Serving the Nation and Indigenous People's Day. Tribal Sovereignty (AMIS 4013) is taught most semesters as part of the American Indian Studies Minor. Join us so you can learn more about:
- The 39 sovereign nations located in Oklahoma exercise their federal "nation" status
- The process for conducting research within a tribal nation’s original treaty boundaries - you should consult with that nation’s Institutional Review Board or with the OKC Tribal IRB.
- Appropriate protocol for engaging leadership, parents and students who are sovereign tribal nation citizens
Be sure to check our calendar for sovereignty focused events throughout the year, and check out these additional sovereignty resources.
