Dancer Rules

  • Dancer Registration will open at 4pm and close at 6:25pm with a last call at 6:15pm. No exceptions.
  • Must have form of identification with proof of age, if asked to verify.
  • Contestants must be fully dressed and in grand entry in order to win a prize.
  • Contestants may only enter 1 contest category. Dancers cannot switch categories once registered.
  • Contestants must dance in their age category. No exceptions.
  • Contestants must wear appropriate attire for their category.
  • Contestants must wear the number given at registration and be visible at grand entry and to judges.
  • Any contestant believed to be intoxicated or under the influence of alcohol/drugs will be immediately disqualified.
  • Dancers who are singing with a drum during the grand entry must be fully dressed in their regalia to win a prize.
  • If any major part of a constant's regalia is dropped during a contest, they should disqualify themselves.
  • If a contestant is over or under-steps, they should disqualify themselves.
  • Prize money will be awarded throughout the evening, generally at the conclusion of each major segment (Golden Age, Adult, Junior) and subject to the Arena Director’s modification. You must be present with your registration number to accept the prize.
  • Contestants must be ready at all times.
  • The Heads Staff reserves the right to combine categories that have a 3 or less registered dancers per category.
  • By registering, you are giving Oklahoma State University, the Native American Student Association, and all approved photographers permission to use your photo/image/songs as a part of their public relations and media materials without additional compensation.
  • By registering and entering the OSU NASA Powwow, I acknowledge and agree to not hold Oklahoma State University, Native American Student Association, or the Payne County Expo Center and their employees/staff responsible for any accidents or injuries that may occur during participation.
  • If a contestant/person wished to protest, there is a $500 CASH ONLY NON-REFUNDABLE fee to be paid upfront or immediately after the contest.
  • All decisions of the Head Staff and judges are final.

Drum Rules

  • Drum registration will open at 4pm and close at 6:25pm with a last call at 6:15pm. No exceptions.
  • The Point System is in effect as of the start of Grand Entry.
  • Each drum shall have no less than 5 singers.
  • Drum area must be clean at all times.
  • Any singer believed to be intoxicated or under the influence of alcohol/drugs, their drum group will be immediately disqualified. No exceptions.
  • Drums may be judged on Intertribal and Contest songs.
  • There will be no drum hopping.
  • Drum groups must sing appropriate songs while being judged during the drum contest.
  • By registering, you are giving Oklahoma State University, the Native American Student Association, and all approved photographers permission to use your photo/image/songs as a part of their public relations and media materials without additional compensation.
  • Smoking will not be permissible inside or around the arena/drum area. No exceptions!
  • By registering and entering the OSU NASA Powwow, I acknowledge and agree to not hold Oklahoma State University, Native American Student Association, or the Payne County Expo Center and their employees/staff responsible for any accidents or injuries that may occur during participation.
  • All singers are expected to display good sportsmanship and be respectful of one another and arena staff. Conduct deemed inappropriate can result in disqualification.
  • All decisions of the Head Staff and judges are final.
  • All drums will be judge on the following:
    • Overall Sound
    • Appropriateness of Song
    • Clarity of Leads
    • Cleanliness
    • Drum Beat
