Gary Pitchlynn, Esq.
Adjunct Professor at University of Oklahoma College of Law
Gary Pitchlynn, a Choctaw Nation citizen, received a B.A. in Journalism from the University of Oklahoma and spent a year in graduate studies. He overlapped graduate studies at OU with the study of law at Oklahoma City University School of Law, where he received his Juris Doctorate in 1977.
During his 41 years of private practice, Pitchlynn has practiced in all three United States District Courts in Oklahoma. He has appeared in numerous tribal courts and Courts of Indian Offenses. He is a member of several tribal bar associations. He has worked for most of the tribes in Oklahoma at one time or another and has been engaged by tribes outside the state on occasion.
Although an experienced criminal and civil trial lawyer, he has spent a significant part of his career focused on Federal/Indian law. A frequent panelist/speaker at the Oklahoma Sovereignty Symposium over the years, he has presented at legal and business conferences and seminars on a variety of topics. He has published numerous articles and papers with professional and trade publications and has served on a variety of legal panels and advisory committees established to advise state and national tribal organizations.
Since 2011, Professor Pitchlynn has served as an adjunct member of the faculty of the College of Law at the University of Oklahoma, where he teaches Indian Gaming Law and Regulation. His gaming experience and expertise has also led to a demand for his services as both an expert witness and as consulting legal counsel to significant litigation and transactional work in this area of the law.
