Institutional Review Boards: Protecting Native Citizens

Sohail Khan, MBBS, MPH, CIP

Director of Health Research for Cherokee Nation Health, Co-Chair of the Cherokee Nation Institutional Review Board

Dr. Khan earned his MPH in 1992 in Epidemiology and Biostatistics from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center College of Public Health. His recent research publications focus on rheumatic disease, metabolic syndromes, Type 2 Diabetes among Oklahoma tribal populations, and effective collaboration between tribal nations and Indian Health Service.

Michael Peercy, MPH, MT(ASCP)H

Epidemiologist for the Chickasaw Nation Department of Health, Administrator for the Chickasaw Nation Institutional Review Board

Mr. Peercy earned his MPH in 2009 from the University of Oklahoma. He is an epidemiologist with the Chickasaw Nation’s Division of Research and Public Health, and he is a certified Medical Technologist with a specialty in hematology. Mr. Peercy also serves as a technical advisor representing Oklahoma on the National Institutes of Health’s Tribal Advisory Committee.

Ryan Schupbach, Pharm. D. BCPS, CACPU.S.

Public Health Service Captain, Vice Chair of the IHS National Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, FDA Drug Safety Oversight Board

Captain Ryan Schupbach is Vice Chair for the IHS committee charged with global responsibilities including formulary management oversight and clinical education/guidance. Capt. Schupbach ahs worked for the IHS as a pharmacist in numerous clinical capacities since his pharmacy career began in 2001.
