Sovereignty Speaks #50
Leadership: Cherokee Delegation Visit
Chuck Hoskin Jr., Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation along with the Cherokee delegation including Cabinet Secretary Shella Bowlin and Delegate Kim Teehee, came to the OSU Center for Sovereign Nations to meet with staff and students.
Chief Hoskin challenged students to be aware of the investment tribal governments make in developing programs which serve tribal citizens in addition to serving unmet needs amongst all Oklahomans. He spoke of the importance of Delegate Teehee being seated in fulfillment of promises made by the U.S. Government in the Treaty of New Echota.
All students who self-identified to OSU as being Cherokee citizens were invited to come to the Center for pizza lunch with Chief Hoskin and the delegation. The crowd was standing room only, with many students left with no choice but to stand in the hall. Following remarks, students and staff enjoyed an informal visit with Chief Hoskin and the delegation.
